YOUR PERI BFF / THE GUIDE
THE GLP-1 FIELD GUIDEPAGE 10 / 15

Yes, you can ask
the awkward stuff.

The muscle question. The side-effect spiral. The “what if this doesn’t work for me either?” question. Let’s make room for all of it.

Will I lose muscle?

Muscle loss can happen during weight loss, including with GLP-1 treatment. Adequate nutrition, protein, and strength training help protect muscle, but don’t guarantee zero loss. Ask your care team how to monitor strength and nutrition—not just pounds. [4]

My dumbbells stayed in the picture for a reason. Yours might be bands, machines, or an adapted routine. Build a plan that fits your body.

What if I’m scared of side effects?

You don’t have to act chill about something you’re putting in your body. Ask about common effects, serious warning signs, and exactly who to contact. Risks vary by medication and by person. [3]

Before starting, get a clear answer to: “What should I do if I feel unwell?” Report symptoms rather than changing doses yourself or assuming you have to push through.

What if I’ve tried everything before?

Then you’re probably tired of hearing “just be consistent” from someone who knows nothing about your Tuesday.

Past attempts don’t make you a failure. Bring that history to a clinician: what you tried, what helped, what was miserable, and what you need now. Medication may be one option; nobody can honestly promise it will be your answer.

Do I have to stay on it forever?

There isn’t one answer for everyone. Weight-management medication may be long-term or indefinite when it helps and is tolerated. Regaining some weight after stopping is common. Discuss benefits, side effects, cost, and a maintenance plan with your prescriber before changing treatment. [3]

Ask about the long game while you’re deciding—not just the first shipment.

What makes clinician-guided care different?

A licensed clinician can assess whether treatment fits your health history, review risks and other medications, prescribe when appropriate, and monitor your response. Ask how follow-up actually works. [3]

Oversight doesn’t make a medication risk-free or a compounded drug FDA-approved. It gives you a qualified person responsible for medical decisions—not a comment section guessing with you.

Questions to ask before choosing a platform ↗
Why does support matter so much?

Because questions don’t politely wait until your next appointment. Clear instructions, realistic expectations, and knowing who to contact give you somewhere useful to turn.

Community can help you feel understood. Your care team handles the medical decisions. You deserve a plan with room for both.

STILL HAVE A QUESTION?

Write it down exactly how you’d say it. You don’t need medical vocabulary to deserve a clear answer.
